Cemetery Trustees

Overview

The Cemetery Trustees consists of five members elected at large in the Town for terms of three years.  The Trustees elect among themselves a Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary.  The Cemetery Trustees appoint a Superintendent and Assistant (if necessary).  A Trustee cannot hold the position of Superintendent or Assistant.

Our Duties

The Trustees are responsible for the general care and management of all Public Cemeteries and the perpetual care endowment funds, expenditures and business affairs of the cemeteries.

The Cemetery Trustees oversee 4 Public Cemeteries; Hillside Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Friends Cemetery and Neal Cemetery.  In addition the Trustees oversee 21 private cemeteries for which perpetual care funds have been provided.

Meetings

The Cemetery Trustees meet at 6:00 pm on the Third Wednesday of every odd month (January, March, May, July, September, and November).  The Trustees meet in Room 212 of the Town Hall located at 21 Main Street.
