Board members shall be appointed by the municipal officers. The board consists of 5 members and 2 associate members. An associate member may attend all meetings of the board and participate in its proceedings, but may vote only when he/she has been designated by the Chairman to sit for a member.
The term of each member and each associate member shall be 3 years.
The Board elects a chair and vice chair from among its members. The Town hires a non-board member to serve as secretary/stenographer. The term of all offices shall be 1 year with eligibility for re-election.
Zoning - The Planning Board shall hear and approve, approve with modifications or conditions, or disapprove all applications which require Planning Board review pursuant to the Zoning Ordinance.
The Planning Board may initiate amendments to the Zoning Ordinance. The Planning Board shall conduct a public hearing on any proposed zoning ordinance amendment. After the Public Hearing, the proposed amendment shall be presented to voters at the Town Meeting so long as all requirements for the Town Meeting have been met. If these requirements have not been met in time for an impending Town Meeting, the proposed amendment shall be scheduled for action at the next Town Meeting.
Subdivision - The Planning Board shall administer the subdivision standards. The provisions of these standards shall pertain to all land proposed for subdivision, as defined in Title 30 M.R.S.A., paragraph 4956, subsection 1, within the boundaries of the Town of North Berwick.
The Planning Board meets at 6:30 pm on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month in Room 212 of the Town Hall located at 21 Main Street.
